Bintulu Port Sdn Bhd (BPSB) scores another milestone with the successful export operations of LNG ISO tanks from its Bintulu International Container Terminal (BICT) on Thursday. This is based on agreements between PETRONAS and TCEL in 2020.
Deploying one (1) unit of Quay Crane supported not only by experienced staff but also by a dedicated fleet of Reach Stackers and Terminal Tractor Trailers, the 205 units of laden LNG ISO tanks were successfully loaded unto Tiger Gas’ vessel Fan Zhou 6 bound for Port of LongKou in Shandong Province, China.
To commemorate the historic event and due to the movement restriction controls implemented globally, BPSB held an E-Commemoration Ceremony.
Joining the event from Shanghai, China, Tiger Clean Energy Ltd (TCEL) was led by its Chairman Mr. Gerry Wang.
TCEL is the owner and operator of the newly commissioned LNG ISO tank filling facility located adjacent to Malaysia’s largest LNG export terminal, Malaysia LNG.
Bintulu Port Authority was led by its General Manager, Tuan Zulkurnain Ayub.
The event was also graced by the virtual presence of Petronas Vice President of LNG Marketing and Trading, Gas and New Energy, Shamsairi bin M Ibrahim as well as Malaysia LNG Group of Companies and Petronas LNG Sdn Bhd Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Syazwan bin Abdullah.
The dynamic mix of Bintulu Port’s 38 years of experience in handling LNG, its location literally next door to the 3rd biggest LNG terminal in the world in a single location and the presence of the Bintulu International Container Terminal (BICT) with reliable services are strategic advantages that will drive Bintulu Port as a hub for LNG ISO tank operations in Asia.
In tandem with the anticipated volume growth based on the planned offtake by TCEL in the coming years, BPSB intends to undertake medium to long-term expansion plans to ensure productivity targets and operations’ KPIs in support of the growth are put in place.
The Group is confident that the diligent efforts made by all parties over the years will not only lead to the establishment of Bintulu as a significant LNG ISO tank hub in the ASEAN region but also a hub that will set the bar and precedence to aspiring LNG ISO tank terminals globally.
