After 7 years, the order of 10 boxships was awarded to COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry (Yangzhou). The first in the series of 10 Panamax containerships are expected to be delivered from December 2023.

COSCO SHIPPING Holdings placed the order of 10 containerships

COSCO (Cayman) Mercury Co., Ltd. signed 10 newbuilds agreements with COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry (Yangzhou) on July 15, 2021. Under the agreement, there are 6 14,092TEU containerships and 4 16,180TEU containerships to be built, with a total price of 1.496 billion US dollars. Each 14,092 TEU boxship will cost $146 million, while each 16,180TEU containership is priced at $155 million.

These 10 containerships all adopt the technical solution of traditional fuel and desulfurization device.

The first containerships order of COSCO SHIPPING this year

This is also the first time COSCO has ordered containerships in 2021 year. In the first half of this year, containerships supported “half” of the new shipbuilding market. According to Clarkson’s previous statistics, the order volume of new vessels in the first half of the year reached a total of 52 billion US dollars, the highest level since 2014, in which containerships accounted for more than half of the share, with a total of 25 billion US dollars.

According to Alphaliner, COSCO SHIPPING currently operates a fleet of 498 vessels, including 181 self-owned vessels and 317 chartered vessels, with a total capacity of 3.018,100 TEU, slightly ahead of CMA CGM and ranking third in the world with a market share of 12.2%.
