Daewoo Shipbuilding led the development of an LNG HP Pump to complete a durability test

Recently, the LNG marine high-pressure pump jointly developed by South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding and Hyupsung Metallize has completed the durability test, successfully realizing the localization of this LNG marine core equipment.

The LNG marine high-pressure pump is the core equipment that provides fuel for the diesel-natural gas dual-fuel ME-GI engine in order to meet the requirements of the new international marine environmental protection regulations. Up to now, all Korean shipbuilding companies need to import this equipment from the United States, France, and other places. Daewoo Shipbuilding said that the localization of this product not only helps to shorten the delivery cycle of ships but also greatly helps to reduce costs.

It is reported that this test has passed the two-month, 24-hour continuous operation test based on the failure-free life test, which ended the verification of the durability of the main components of the equipment and the safety of long-term equipment operation. The test ensures that the equipment can complete 4000 hours of continuous operation like the existing overseas imported products.

The success of this test is the first achievement achieved by a Korean shipbuilding company in cooperation with a small and medium-sized cooperative company to develop and manufacture LNG marine core equipment. During this period, Daewoo Shipbuilding provided special LNG-related technologies, as well as the industry’s first LNG-related comprehensive test facility built in 2015 – the test equipment of the Energy System Experiment Center, Korea Institute of Machinery (KIMM), Korea Shipbuilding and Marine Equipment Research Research Institute (KOMERI) established test procedures and conducted durability test evaluations.

An official of Daewoo Shipbuilding said: “The success of this test is win-win cooperation between research institutions and large and small and medium-sized enterprises. In the future, the company will further improve market technology and price competitiveness through the localization of core marine equipment. Contribute to single competitiveness.”

In addition, in order to realize the certification of LNG marine high-pressure pump technology, in addition to durability tests, Daewoo Shipbuilding is also cooperating with international classification societies such as the Korea Register of Shipping (KR) and DNV to promote the type approval certification process.

Daewoo Shipbuilding said, “For more than 20 years, we have been focusing on LNG research and development. Through the empirical research and development of the Energy System Experiment Center, we have achieved LNG-related technological competitiveness that is synchronized with the world. At the same time, we will make every effort to realize the localization of LNG marine equipment.” (Wang Chu)
