Naming "Eagle Colatina" - DP2 Suezmax Shuttle Tanker

On March 25, Samsung Heavy Industries held an online naming ceremony for the first second-generation DP2 Suezmax shuttle tanker built for AET Tankers, a subsidiary of Malaysian shipping group MISC Berhad. The new vessel, named “Eagle Colatina”, is the first of three new-build shuttle tankers signed by AET Tankers in March 2020 with Petrobras, and is expected to be delivered for operation in the near future.

According to reports, the “Eagle Colatina” is a 155,000DWT DP2 environmentally-friendly shuttle tanker, built in cooperation with Samsung Heavy Industries, DNV, and MISC subsidiary Eaglestar Petrobras‘ technical requirements in Brazil. The vessel operates to the highest environmental standards and meets Tier III NOx and SOx emission requirements.

Eagle Colatina (DNV) is equipped with electrically driven variable frequency cargo pumps and high-powered thrusters to improve fuel efficiency and is fully capable of operating in expected weather conditions. In addition, the ship is equipped with energy-saving devices such as Saver Fins and Savor Stator to improve propulsion efficiency, which is about 6% higher than the requirements of the second stage of the Ship Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI).

Upon delivery, Eagle Colatina will operate in the Brazilian Basin, joining the remaining six shuttle tankers that AET already operates locally for Petrobras. Currently, AET operates 13 Dynamic Positioning Shuttle Tankers (DPSTs) in its fleet, eight of which are operating in the Brazilian Basin, in addition to Petrobras’ six, and two are chartered by Shell.

Following the “Eagle Colatina”, AET has three DP2 shuttle tankers under construction, including one from Hyundai Heavy Industries and two from Samsung Heavy Industries, all of which are expected to be delivered within this year. After all new ships are delivered, AET will have 17 DPSTs, 13 of which are deployed in the Brazilian market.
