Wärtsilä supplies a complete set of propulsion equipment for Canadian operator McAsphalt Marine Transportation. The propulsion set will be equipped on a new asphalt carrier built at Wuhu Shipyard in China.

The 22nd equipment order marks the strong partnership between Wuhu Shipyard and Wärtsilä Propulsion Solutions. This is the third dual-fuel propulsion system order signed by both parties this year.

The two parties also signed a strategic cooperation agreement, which marked a new stage in the cooperation between Wuhu Shipyard and Wärtsilä. In the future, both parties will continue on the development and research of green energy in the shipbuilding industry.

Zhang Zhao, Chairman of Wuhu Shipyard, said: “We have used Wärtsilä’s products for many years. It is very handy and very smooth. We trust Wärtsilä’s efficiency and reliability. That’s why we chose Wärtsilä again when building this new ship.”

Östen Lindell, Sales President of Wärtsilä Offshore Power, said, “The long-term successful cooperation between us and Wuhu Shipyard speaks for itself. We thank Wuhu Shipyard for trusting Wärtsilä’s wide range of propulsion solutions. We are very happy and also I am proud to be selected again to participate in the project.”

Asphalt Carrier Features

This 11,700 CBM asphalt carrier will be equipped with two Wärtsilä 20DF dual-fuel engines, as well as Wärtsilä’s controllable pitch propeller (CPP), gearbox, Energopac rudder and Wärtsilä side thruster. The equipment is scheduled to be delivered to the shipyard in December 2022.

The customer’s choice of dual-fuel engines demonstrates its ship design’s concern for environmental sustainability. At the same time, the Energopac rudder solution is a mature fuel-saving technology suitable for applications such as controllable and fixed pitch propellers. Compared with the traditional propeller and rudder configuration, it uses advanced fluid mechanics technology, has excellent ship maneuverability, and can improve the comfort of the ship.
